Essential Oil Warm-up Bags

Hey girls. Here's the instructions, as promised.

For those of you who aren't in MOPS...come! It's fun! This was our project this week.

Supplies:
100% Cotton Flannel Fabric (as much as you want, if you want to make one bag, get 1/4 yard)
Essential Oil (You can find at Nature's O or at Walmart by the candles)
Rice (You will need 3 cups white rice for one bag)
Thread (Try to find a higher cotton ratio on the thread so it won't melt in the microwave)
1 gallon Ziplock bag

Cut a rectangle 18x12 inches. You can change the size and shape to fit your taste.
Fold cloth in half lengthwise to make a long strip. You will then need to sew the short (6in) open side and the long (18in) open side.

Once you have the sides sewn, cut corners to remove bulk before turning it inside out. (see pic)

Once your bag is turned out, press it so it will be easy to sew trenches for the rice.

Sew 3 trenches down the bag (TWO lines) and stop 2 inches short of the end of the bag. This makes for easier filling with the rice.

Pour 3 cups of rice into the gallon Ziplock bag and several drops of your essential oil. Zip it up and mix the oil into the rice thoroughly. (smash and rub the rice to get it in)

Cut the tip off of your Ziplock bag and use this as a funnel to fill your flannel bag. It's easier if you have someone hold the flannel bag for you while you pour the rice. Fill each trench a bit at a time evenly as you go up. Leave some space at the top (unfilled) for the rice to be able to move and so that you can sew the end up.

You can choose to whip stitch the end by hand (see pic) or sew with a sewing machine. You will need to fold the end a little on each corner and then down in two folds. Then stitch the end closed.

Now your bag is done!
Microwave for 1 minute. If you have a high powered micro, test at lower time increments.

Great for aches and pains or just warming up on a cold winter night.
These are also great to put in the freezer for an icepack.

If you want your essential oil smell to last longer, store in a ziplock bag when not in use. :)
